The Young Women’s Advisory Council (YWAC) is a council built on advocacy, leadership, civic engagement training and the notion that young women of color can drive the policy change they want to see.
Wisdom in Action is a gathering for Black girls and young women (ages 14–20) to explore key issues affecting their lives, build shared understanding, and imagine actionable solutions rooted in joy, leadership, and collective care. This youth-led experience will be guided by our current Young Women’s Advisory Council and other community thought partners.

Whether you're passionate about education, safety, healthcare, housing, or leadership, this is your space to be heard and build power.
We’re inviting youth who:
Identify as Black girls, femmes, or gender-expansive youth
Are between the ages of 14–20
Live in Nashville or surrounding areas
Are passionate about community issues, even if they’re just beginning to explore solutions
Want to learn more about policy, advocacy, and leadership
Are available to attend the full summit day (9:00 am –2:00 pm)
During the summit, attendees will:
Explore real issues impacting Black girls in Nashville, including safety, education, healthcare, housing, and leadership

WOCC/T.I.M.E. Summer Work Experience
In 2020, we adapted our flagship program, the Collaborative Cohort, for high school students in our summer work experience. In addition to equipping them with job readiness skills and providing a strong foundation for optimal decision making, we guided young women through assessing social justice issues from systems analysis to personal impact. Utilizing the tools of storytelling, photovoice, videography, and graphic design to explore their unique story of self, in relation to larger advocacy efforts, the group wrote and produced short documentaries exploring issues of their choosing.
